Indiantown officials advanced a one-year pause on new data center proposals after growing community concern about the industry's potential effects. Because the moratorium would not be retroactive, Project Growler, Project Silver Fox and Project Parrot can continue through the review process. A final vote on the moratorium and a citizen advisory committee is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Project Silver Fox, proposed by Panattoni and Ferreira on a 606-acre site, is described as a potential 1-gigawatt facility requiring about 1,000 megawatts of continuous power and representing a possible $1 billion investment. The action comes amid similar moratoriums in Martin, Nassau and St. Johns counties, with officials and environmental advocates citing electricity demand, water consumption, habitat impacts, cooling needs and noise as concerns.
