Grove City Council in Ohio has enacted a 12-month moratorium on data center development within the city limits. The decision followed an hours-long, emotionally charged meeting where numerous community members voiced strong opinions both for and against the proposed projects.

Opponents, including Ron Campbell of the group Protect Grove City, articulated concerns that data centers could degrade property values, harm the environment through potential impacts on water, air, and noise, and impede the community's overall well-being. Conversely, supporters emphasized the economic benefits, such as job creation and the city's opportunity to participate in future technological advancements.

Representatives for the data center development team presented information aimed at addressing concerns, asserting that water usage and noise levels would remain low while touting more than 200 potential jobs. However, some council members, like Mohamed Omar, expressed a need for additional time to thoroughly assess what is best for Grove City before approving any data center projects.

Ultimately, the council voted 6-1 to impose the 12-month moratorium, with an amendment for a six-month review period. This action aligns with similar moratoriums recently implemented in two neighboring townships, reflecting a broader regional consideration of data center expansion. Both community factions have indicated their intent to continue advocating for their respective positions.
