City of Venice will hold a final vote on a Data center moratorium
Venice leaders are scheduled to hold a final vote on a proposed 12-month moratorium that would pause the acceptance, review and approval of data center applications. The proposal follows neighborhood concerns about noise and the electricity required to operate large data centers.
The City of Venice is scheduled to hold a final reading on a proposed 12-month data center moratorium during a meeting beginning at 9 a.m. If approved, the ordinance would prevent the city from accepting, reviewing or approving data center applications while officials evaluate existing regulations and potential impacts on nearby communities.
The proposal comes after residents raised concerns about noise and the utility power demands of large-scale data centers. Venice leaders have discussed the moratorium since August. Manatee County, which has also paused data center development, approved its own 12-month moratorium earlier in the month.
