A public forum in Canton, Ohio, discussed plans for a data center proposed by Dubai-based DAMAC Digital. The facility is planned for the northeast corner of Trump Avenue SE and Orchardview Street on land recently annexed from Canton Township.
Mayor Bill Sherer, representing city officials at the Edward Peel Coleman Community Center, addressed public concerns, particularly regarding water usage. He explained that the proposed data center would utilize a closed-loop cooling system, minimizing the need for fresh water. Mayor Sherer assured attendees that the city has ample water supply, noting a significant decrease in usage since Republic Steel's closure, and that fresh city water for a separate data center in Perry Township is also not an issue. The Mayor emphasized that the city is collaborating with DAMAC Digital to secure future revenue, as the era of large industrial employers providing substantial tax revenue has concluded.
