A proposed data center project by Stark Power near Mandan, North Dakota, is generating significant local concern, primarily due to its close proximity to area schools. Reporter Tia Jorgensen covered the issue, highlighting that residents are worried about the project's location.
The proposed site for Stark Power's first data center is approximately five miles north of downtown Mandan. The middle school is less than a mile from the outer edge of the proposed site, and the high school is roughly the same distance away to the southeast, with homes located between the schools. Other edges of the site are mostly farmland.
Stark Power has confirmed it is in the very early stages of the project, having signed a right to purchase property from three landowners. The proposal still needs to go through city planning and various approval processes before any construction can begin.
