Central PA technical schools expand fiber-optic training to support data center growth

As artificial intelligence becomes more prevalent in the workforce and data centers are continued to be built across the state, technical schools across central Pennsylvania see their growth as an opportunity to train students in a new and growing field. With an increasing number of data centers, comes an increased demand for technicians with knowledge of fiber optics and their maintenance. "They need individuals who can come out and are already certified fiber optic technicians who can go directly in and install fiber, which is necessary to make sure that they're moving gigabits here at the speed of whatever,” said Scott Rogers, the administrative director for York County School of Technology.
