AI data center coming to Western Kentucky

WBKO News reported on a major economic announcement from Washington D.C. regarding a new AI data center in Western Kentucky. Kelly Austin stated that the U.S. Department of Energy has revealed plans to redevelop portions of its Paducah Site, specifically the former "Gaseous Diffusion Plant," into a data center campus.
The project is supported by a privately funded investment exceeding $100 billion, marking one of Kentucky's largest ever. Construction is anticipated to be completed by 2031, creating an estimated 8,000 construction jobs and 600 permanent positions. Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman highlighted that the facility will incorporate its own energy source, which is expected to prevent increases in utility rates and potentially lead to long-term savings for consumers. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright was also noted for announcing this multi-billion dollar investment into Paducah.
