The majority of respondents believe the rapid expansion of data centers poses serious challenges for community planning.
New polling data commissioned by the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) indicates widespread concern among Texans regarding the impact of data centers on crucial resources like water and electricity, as well as on local communities. Data centers are criticized in the poll for potentially reducing the quality of life for nearby residents due to factors such as noise and air pollution and competition for land.
The poll found that approximately 80% of participants agreed that the rapid expansion of data centers creates significant challenges for local community planning, with only 9% disagreeing. Texans appear more divided on the broader value proposition of data centers; 48% view them as necessary and important for technology, infrastructure, and economic growth, while 38% do not share this perspective.
