Texas resident Mason McCallister says he discovered plans for a large AI data center near his family’s rural property with little advance notice to local residents. He argues that data centers should be placed where they fit communities, with greater transparency and meaningful local benefits, while supporters point to jobs and tax revenue.

Mason McCallister, a Texas realtor and private investigator, described his efforts to uncover plans for an AI data center near his family’s rural property. He said a representative initially sought family land for the project, and survey crews later appeared in the area. McCallister said he contacted local officials, reviewed permits and maps, and traveled to Fort Worth to question the data center’s chief executive after receiving little information from his state representative.

McCallister said he is not opposed to data centers in principle but believes they should be located where they make sense for surrounding communities rather than solely where construction is cheapest. He called for transparency, community involvement and jobs, while acknowledging that data centers can generate economic benefits and tax revenue. His comments came amid broader rural opposition across Texas and debate over Governor Greg Abbott’s and President Donald Trump’s support for data center development.
