The City of Waterloo, Iowa, is deliberating a three-month moratorium on new data center developments. This consideration arises from public concern regarding a land purchase made in 2025 by Wahawk Power LLC, which plans to convert the property into an 80,000 square-foot data center.
The Waterloo City Council is scheduled to discuss the proposed moratorium in September. A resolution to adopt the moratorium would require only one reading and at least four votes in favor to pass. If enacted, the city council would also have the option to extend the moratorium for up to one year.
