Milton to set public hearing on ordinance banning data centers
Milton Town Council plans to schedule a public hearing on a proposed ordinance that would prohibit data centers in all zoning districts within the town. The proposal cites concerns about electricity demand, water use, public utilities, noise and community character, with a vote expected after the hearing.
Milton Town Council is preparing to consider an ordinance that would classify data centers as a specifically prohibited use throughout the town. The proposed ban cites potential impacts on the electrical grid, water resources, public utilities and public safety, including noise from cooling equipment and backup generators.
Because the measure would amend the zoning code, the council must first approve a resolution setting a public hearing, likely in December, before voting on the ordinance. The council is scheduled to take that initial step at its Nov. 2 meeting.
