Plans for a large data center in Indiantown, Florida, have been withdrawn by developer Silver Fox 606 following significant resident pushback. The proposed 2 million square foot facility, which WPTV News first reported on in February, is now off the table, at least for the time being.
However, residents in the small town are now raising concerns about other undeveloped land. Florida Power and Light (FPL) has proposed rezoning a 5700-acre parcel on Caner Highway. While FPL stated in a recent Village Council meeting that they could build a data center on the land, they clarified that the proposed Planned Unit Development application is a planning framework for future development, not a specific project or site plan. Village Manager Teran Chris Dodd indicated that FPL's current plans for the site involve building a substation. The community's reporter, Cassandra Garcia, noted that any future data center project on FPL's land would still require council approval.
