The Divide County Planning and Zoning Commission has formed an ad hoc subcommittee tasked with reviewing and revising the county's comprehensive planning and zoning ordinance. County Attorney Seymour Jordan proposed the subcommittee, arguing that a smaller group could more efficiently tackle the extensive 100-page document than the full board.
The initiative follows several months of confusion regarding agricultural building permits and the definition of a 'farmer' within the existing ordinance. Planning and Zoning Administrator Shari Bublitz and Jordan were previously charged by the county commission with drafting necessary changes. While many revisions are minor typographical corrections, the update will also include significant changes to the county's requirements for the construction and operation of data centers.
The subcommittee, comprising Bublitz, Chico Eriksmoen, Jody Gunlock, and Doug Clemens, with Jordan advising, will work to ensure consistency in definitions and propose comprehensive amendments. Once their review is complete, the proposed changes will be submitted to the full Planning and Zoning Commission for further review and approval.
