Anthropic has reportedly secured a substantial $45 billion deal with Nscale to lease artificial intelligence computing capacity at the Monarch Compute Campus in Mason County, West Virginia. The six-year agreement, which Bloomberg and CNBC confirmed, is slated to commence in August 2026. The campus, located north of Point Pleasant, is being developed in two phases by UK-based Nscale, an AI infrastructure developer.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey issued a statement praising the agreement, calling it an "extraordinary vote of confidence" in the state's strategy. He highlighted West Virginia's resources, including reliable energy, as crucial for meeting the demands of the AI industry and emphasized the state's potential to "power the AI revolution." The governor also recognized State Senator Glenn Jefferies for his efforts in attracting such investments.
Nscale plans to deploy NVIDIA's advanced Vera Rubin technology to support Anthropic's expanding AI computing requirements. In a related development, Nscale recently donated $500,000 to Mason County Schools to enhance STEM and trades education programs.
