Developer proposes data centers in Colchester, drawing concern from residents
Renew Developers is proposing two data center buildings on Old Amston Road in Colchester, including a 20,000-square-foot facility, but the project would require zoning approval and review by the Connecticut Siting Council. Residents are raising concerns about clearing wooded land, traffic, noise, water use, lighting, property values and the area's character, with some discussing a petition.
Renew Developers has proposed two data center buildings on Old Amston Road in Colchester, Connecticut. One building would provide rack space and 5 megawatts of power, while the second would be a more than 20,000-square-foot data center with the same power capacity. The project remains preliminary and would require a zoning change from the Colchester Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as involvement from the Connecticut Siting Council.
Residents near the wooded site expressed concerns at a recent commission meeting about land clearing, traffic, noise, water consumption, lighting and potential effects on property values. Emily Wilson said residents are considering organizing a petition, while nearby resident Sonny Danforth questioned how the development could change the area's landscape. The commission is scheduled to hold another meeting with public comment at Colchester Town Hall.
