Data center protesters interrupt mayor’s weekly press conference
Protesters disrupted Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg's press conference, demanding action against a proposed hyperscale data center in west Louisville, citing environmental concerns. They criticized the mayor for ignoring community input and for proposing regulations that would not affect the project developed by Steve Poe.
Protesters from the "No Data Center 502" organization interrupted Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg's weekly press conference, unfurling a banner that read "STOP Steve Doe's Data Center" and chanting against the mayor. The group opposes a proposed hyperscale data center in West and Southwest Louisville, which they claim is being developed by Steve Poe.
According to a statement released by "No Data Center 502," the organizers were forcibly removed from the event. They accuse Mayor Greenberg of ignoring their requests for a meeting for over three weeks and of contributing to "environmental racism" by favoring wealthy developers over community health. The organization highlights that a city survey last year showed 81.5% community opposition to the project. They also noted that while Mayor Greenberg mentioned proposed county-wide regulations to ban hyperscale data centers, these regulations would reportedly not apply to Steve Poe's specific project on Camp Ground Road.
