Anti-data center group in NKY sues over zoning for proposed hyperscale data center

We are Mason County, an anti-data center advocacy group, has filed a lawsuit against the Mason County Fiscal Court and Planning Commission in Northern Kentucky. The legal action challenges a local ordinance that permits data centers, which the group contends is inconsistent with the county's comprehensive plan and constitutes illegal zoning without proper planning. The lawsuit arises from plans submitted by an undisclosed major AI company for a vast 2,000-acre hyperscale data center complex near Maysville. The company has reportedly been offering farmers significantly above market value for their land. Local opposition centers on concerns regarding potential pollution, noise, increased energy costs, and the irreversible loss of prime farmland. We are Mason County hopes their lawsuit will compel authorities to consider a smaller data center project in an alternative location. Members of the zoning commission could not be reached for comment.
