Residents in Morgan County, Georgia, have found an unexpected ally in their fight against a new data center being built by Meta: Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Despite the county's strong support for Donald Trump, local residents like Beverly Morris expressed hope that Ocasio-Cortez could help them address the issues caused by the data center.

Morris and her husband, Jeff Morris, who live just 400 feet from Meta's 2.5 million square-foot facility, claim their tap water has become brown and sediment-filled since construction began in 2018. The concerns, documented in a new film by More Perfect Union, show Ocasio-Cortez examining the contaminated water and acknowledging that "the only thing that's changed was that spot opening up across the street."

Following her visit, Ocasio-Cortez brought jars of water from Morgan County to a hearing of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. She questioned Jessica Kramer, Assistant Administrator for Water at the Environmental Protection Agency, about the administration's failure to ensure clean drinking water nationwide, highlighting the plight of families forced to ship water to their homes for basic needs.
