The St. Louis County Board, meeting in Hermantown, Minnesota, approved a $955,000 contract with Gee Asphalt Systems, Inc. for bituminous seal coat projects on several county roads. These projects, utilizing a taconite tailings by-product from Optimal Aggregates, Inc. of Gilbert, are scheduled to commence in June across various locations including Maple Grove Road, St. Louis River Road, and in Greenwood Township.
In a separate, significant discussion, the Board addressed concerns from residents regarding an update to the county’s Zoning Ordinance 62. Following a previous vote to send the ordinance back to the Planning Commission for further review, commissioners requested an amended resolution for their May 5 meeting. This amendment specifically removes changes related to inoperable vehicles and, crucially, directs the Planning Commission to develop a comprehensive Data Center Zoning Ordinance Amendment, indicating an upcoming focus on regulating data center development within the county.
