Pittsfield Township passes new data center regulations
The Pittsfield Township Board of Trustees approved an ordinance regulating data centers and other high-resource-demand facilities. The rules address where facilities may be built, neighborhood meetings and other requirements, as a six-month construction moratorium nears expiration.
The Pittsfield Township Board of Trustees approved new regulations for data centers and other high-resource-demand facilities after roughly a year of discussion. Township Supervisor Trish Reilly said the ordinance establishes siting rules, neighborhood meeting requirements and other safeguards.
The action comes as the township’s second six-month moratorium on data center construction is nearing expiration. Reilly said there are no current or known future plans for a data center or similar project in Pittsfield Township, and the ordinance could be revised depending on future state legislation.
