The City of Lynn Haven is contemplating a year-long moratorium on the construction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers within its limits. During a special city commission meeting held on Tuesday, commissioners discussed the potential ban, aiming to prevent developers from building new AI data centers.

News 13's Kerry Dillon reported that AI data centers have become a significant public concern, particularly in the Panhandle region, where multiple counties have already taken action against them due to environmental and health risks. Lynn Haven officials intend to conduct thorough research on potential requirements and regulations for data centers within their Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) while the moratorium, if enacted, is in effect.

The City Council indicated plans to align with Bay County's approach, seeking to establish a protective layer for Lynn Haven residents. Commissioners emphasized the need for more research before proceeding with a final vote on the proposed moratorium.
