Tom Green County commissioners call for enhanced data center regulation
Tom Green County Commissioners have adopted a resolution calling for enhanced state-level regulation of data centers in Texas. This move was prompted by community opposition in Dove Creek to a local data center. The resolution aims to implement safeguards for community resources, infrastructure, and transparent public reporting.
The Tom Green County Commissioner's Court has formally adopted a resolution advocating for increased regulation of data centers across Texas. Commissioner Shawn Nanny proposed the resolution following significant opposition from Dove Creek residents regarding a data center project in their community last week.
The resolution seeks the implementation of safeguards for community resources and infrastructure, transparent public reporting, and other regulatory measures designed to address the potential negative impacts of these facilities. Commissioner Rick Bacon of Precinct 3 emphasized that the county is not entirely against data centers but desires more local control. He highlighted that current data center development in West Texas feels like the "Wild Wild West" without proper oversight. The resolution will now be forwarded to state legislative leaders, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House, to encourage the enactment of legislation that provides greater control over data center development.
