The Beaufort County Planning Commission voted to send a proposed temporary moratorium on data centers to the Beaufort County Council. If approved, the measure would pause the acceptance, processing and approval of certain data center applications and permits.
County leaders said the pause would give officials time to develop a clearer definition and regulatory framework for data centers. The planning commission also asked the County Council to extend the proposed moratorium from nine months to 12 months.
