The St. Joseph City Council will hold a public hearing on rezoning 18 properties and reconsider two contracts connected to proposed data center zoning and development guidelines. The contracts would fund a study by GBA Inc. and community outreach and legal services from Renew Missouri Advocates.

The St. Joseph City Council is scheduled to consider rezoning 18 properties, including 17 along Mitchell Avenue and one at 1207A South 33rd Street, from neighborhood commercial to two-family residential. The change would alter permitted uses but would not itself authorize construction of new homes or duplexes.

The council will also revisit two previously postponed contracts related to data center development. One agreement would pay GBA Inc. more than $42,000 for a study and recommendations on zoning and development guidelines, while a contract exceeding $10,000 with Renew Missouri Advocates would cover community outreach, legal services and recommendations for potential zoning and city code changes. The proposed ordinance language includes guidelines intended to protect St. Joseph residents and their property.
