Gov: Butler Twp. Supervisors, Butler Twp. Community Center, Planning Commission
The Butler Township Supervisors' meeting, originally scheduled for the municipal building, has been relocated to the gymnasium of the Butler Twp. Community Center to accommodate a larger crowd interested in data center regulations, mining operations, and a quality of life ordinance. The agenda specifically includes a discussion of rules proposed by the supervisors for data centers.
While no specific data center projects have been proposed within Butler Township, NorthPoint Development, a company currently developing a data center in nearby Hazle Township, has acquired land in Butler Township, raising local interest. Residents previously packed a planning commission meeting on May 4 to discuss data center rules, with another planning meeting held on May 11.
Environmental concerns are also on the agenda, as Rick Koval, an author and naturalist, is expected to present recordings indicating the presence of endangered bats in areas designated for mining and potential data center development. Additionally, the supervisors have revised a draft of a quality of life ordinance following resident dissatisfaction with earlier provisions.
