The Custer County Board of Supervisors in Nebraska unanimously adopted data center regulations intended to establish health, safety and rural-character safeguards if a facility is proposed in the county. Zoning Administrator Darci Tibbs said the rules are designed to regulate—not attract—data centers, and followed months of work by county officials and the planning commission.

The board separately approved a 12-month moratorium on battery energy storage systems. Officials said the pause will provide time to research the systems and develop standards similar to those adopted for data centers.
