Water permit application for Stratos data center expected to be filed 'shortly'
The Stratos data center developer says its water permit application is complete and in final review, but it had not yet been filed with the Utah Division of Water Rights as of Wednesday. The application is expected to include hydrological studies and plans for water treatment and recycling.
The Stratos data center project in Box Elder County, Utah, has received approval from the Utah Military Installation Development Authority and the Box Elder County Commission, but key details about its water use remain unavailable. Developer Kevin O'Leary previously said the water permit application would be submitted by the end of August.
Paul Palandjian, chief executive officer of O'Leary Digital and the company's co-founder with O'Leary, said the application is complete and undergoing final review. He said the filing will go beyond standard requirements by including detailed hydrological studies and engineering analysis of water treatment and recycling. The Utah Division of Water Rights said it had not received the application as of Wednesday, and the developer said it would be submitted shortly.
