Nye County doubles down on data center regulation with new rules for potential development
Nye County commissioners passed a nearly 200-page ordinance regulating potential data center construction throughout the county outside the Pahrump Valley. The county previously enacted a permanent ban on new data centers in the Pahrump Valley, which is being challenged in a lawsuit.
Nye County commissioners approved additional data center regulations covering areas outside the Pahrump Valley, expanding oversight to potential projects across Nevada’s largest county. The nearly 200-page ordinance includes requirements for any future data center construction and is expected to take effect Oct. 28.
The action follows the county’s August approval of a permanent ban on new data center construction in the Pahrump Valley. That ban has prompted a lawsuit, while residents continue to raise concerns about the potential effects of data centers in Southern Nevada.
