Gov: Liberty City Leaders, Mayor Greg Knutson, Clay County
Metrobloks has announced a substantial $1.4 billion investment to develop a new data center campus in Liberty, Missouri. City leaders in Liberty have given their approval for the project, which will span half a million square feet and is projected to bring significant tax revenue to the city and Clay County over the next 25 years, as well as add dozens of jobs to the community.
Mayor Greg Knutson highlighted that the property, which previously generated $34,000 in taxes, will now bring in $49 million annually to various tax jurisdictions in Clay County. However, not all residents are on board, with some, like Duffin, expressing skepticism about the investment's promised benefits and raising concerns about the data center's energy and water consumption.
Liberty administrators, however, assured residents that a deal was developed to prevent power and water rates from increasing for citizens due to the data center's operations, emphasizing the project's necessity for the city's financial growth.
