Weld County commissioner candidates differ on data centers, justice center
Weld County commissioner candidates Stacey Graham and Steve Reams disagree over a recently approved Global AI data center planned between Greeley and Windsor. Graham opposes the project over concerns about water use, groundwater contamination, air quality and construction-code violations, while Reams supports it despite acknowledging shortcomings in public outreach.
Weld County commissioner candidates Stacey Graham and Steve Reams have differing positions on Global AI’s approved data center, which is planned on land between Greeley and Windsor. The Weld County commissioners approved a construction permit for what is described as Colorado’s largest data center after significant public opposition.
Graham, who opposes data centers in the county, cited drought conditions, potential groundwater and chemical impacts, and alleged construction-code violations involving Global AI. Reams supports the project, arguing that public concerns about data centers often rely on outdated information and that the county should take a balanced approach, though he criticized the company and industry for inadequate public communication. The project’s closed-loop cooling system is expected to require an initial 65,000-gallon fill and approximately 6,500 gallons annually for topping off.
