A "Pro-Data Center Party" called "Data After Dark" was held at PubKey in Washington D.C. on Saturday night, bringing together over a thousand attendees to celebrate the expansion of American computing power, particularly in light of the rapid growth of AI. The event, organized by Young Voices, Pirate Wires, and The Compute Optimist, and sponsored by various technology advocacy groups and think tanks, featured a DJ, AI-themed cocktails, and a generative AI photo booth.
However, the celebration was disrupted when protesters crashed the event, with one female demonstrator taking the stage to shout criticisms about data centers' water consumption and environmental impact. Party-goers responded with "USA!" chants as the protester was removed. Following the incident, Adam Thierer of the R Street Institute addressed the crowd, criticizing the protesters.
