Huntingdon Co. residents voice concerns on proposed data center
Residents of Union Township and Huntingdon County are opposing a proposed data center over concerns about its impact on the rural community. Union Township is considering a zoning ordinance that could regulate the facility’s size, height and noise, with the Board of Supervisors scheduled to discuss the matter at its next meeting.
Residents of Union Township and communities across Huntingdon County are organizing against a proposed data center, saying the project could damage the area’s rural character and peaceful environment. The Save Trough Creek Valley organization held a meeting to explain how zoning could be used to regulate or potentially prevent the development.
Chairman Jay Zeigler said a zoning ordinance could impose limits on building height, size and noise, including a possible 40-decibel restriction. Union Township’s ordinance is pending review, while Walker Township is the only municipality in the county that has already adopted a data center ordinance. The Union Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to address the issue at its Nov. 3 meeting.
