A recall effort has been initiated to remove three Lincoln County, Nebraska commissioners following their vote against a proposed data center moratorium. Lincoln County Clerk/Election Commissioner Rebecca Rossell detailed the procedure for the recall, explaining that the commissioners have 20 days to respond before signature petitions are circulated.

Organizers will then have 30 days to collect signatures from at least 35 percent of the votes cast in each commissioner's 2024 race. Rossell indicated that due to Nebraska law prohibiting special elections between August and December, any successful recall election would likely not occur until January 2027. The estimated cost to taxpayers for the recall process is between $30,000 and $50,000.
