Path One Data Centers is proposing a small-scale data center facility in Ida County, Iowa, drawing significant resident interest. The proposed facility would be 10 to 25 megawatts, cost between $100 and $150 million, and occupy 5 to 25 acres with a 40,000 square foot building.
During a public meeting at the Ida Grove Rec Center, residents packed the room to question Path One representatives about various aspects of the project. Primary concerns included the amount of water data centers use, the impact on the existing power grid, and noise levels. Path One specified their plans for a closed-loop water system, using 350,000 to 700,000 gallons of water a year, and stated noise levels would remain at or below 55 decibels at the property line.
Residents also raised concerns about the Iowa power grid, noting it had been overgrown due to heat and humidity in July. Path One addressed this by explaining that local ethanol plants near Galva and Arthur provide a great power source, and the existing grid could handle their 10 to 25 megawatt centers. Furthermore, Path One assured residents they would only consider building on existing industrial sites and avoid farmlands.
