The Ohio Power Siting Board has announced a public hearing in Fairfield County for a proposed natural gas power plant and battery storage facility. The project, named the Fairfield Energy Center, is planned for construction on approximately 100 acres within the Village of Millersport.
The proposed facility aims to have a maximum generating capacity of 1,300 megawatts from natural gas and an additional 1,000 megawatts from battery energy storage. Crucially, the announcement specifies that this energy center would be built to supply electricity to a data center situated next to the project site.
Local residents are invited to provide sworn testimony during the public hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. on August 17 at Millersport Junior/Senior High School. A separate evidentiary hearing is set for September 17 at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio offices in Columbus, where the project applicant, Ohio Power Siting Board staff, and intervening parties will present expert testimony and evidence.
