Mason Councilwoman Elaine Ferris ousted in recall race, 6 News projects
Mason voters recalled Councilwoman Elaine Ferris amid backlash over a proposed $1 billion data center and a data center zoning ordinance that was later repealed. The project is proposed for a 400-acre site in Vevay Township, whose owners are seeking annexation into Mason, while residents continue to raise concerns about water use, electricity demand and noise.
Mason voters recalled Councilwoman Elaine Ferris following opposition to a proposed $1 billion data center and the city’s now-repealed data center zoning ordinance. Pamela Oliver won the seat with 58.45% of the vote, while a separate recall effort targeting Mayor Russell Whipple was rejected because of a language error.
The proposed facility would occupy a 400-acre site in Vevay Township, with the property owners seeking annexation into Mason after the township declined to discuss a potential 425 Agreement involving economic development and tax sharing. Residents have criticized the project over water and electricity consumption, noise pollution and what they described as a lack of transparency from city officials.
