A WRAL/WSOC poll of 900 North Carolina residents found limited support for the state’s current approach to data center development. Thirty-seven percent said data centers should be allowed but required to cover their own costs, 29% opposed them altogether, and 13% supported temporary bans. Only 6% favored the state actively encouraging new data centers.

The poll was discussed during early voting coverage from a polling location in Apex. SurveyUSA said voters were more receptive to data centers when they believed the projects would boost the economy and generate tax revenue, provided they could be developed safely without causing harm.
