Hutto, Texas residents have filed a formal legal protest against the proposed Zydeco Data Center development. This action aims to force the Hutto City Council to approve a required zoning change with a super majority vote. Residents are concerned about noise and the proximity of a heavy industrial zone to their neighborhoods.

Residents in Hutto, Texas, specifically those living within 200 feet of a proposed data center site, are actively opposing the development of the Zydeco Data Center. Katie Martin and the "Stop the Hutto Data Center" Facebook group are collecting signatures for a formal legal protest against the necessary zoning changes. This protest, if successful in gathering enough signatures from property owners (20% within 200 feet of the zoning change), would require the Hutto City Council to approve the zoning change with a super majority vote (six out of seven council members) instead of a simple majority, as per state code. Residents, including Jess Brown, have voiced concerns about potential noise pollution and the long-term risks of having a heavy industrial zone directly adjacent to their neighborhoods, impacting their quality of life. The Hutto City Council and Zidico Development, the company behind the project, have not responded to requests for comment. However, Zidico Development previously stated that their goal is to bring a significant tax value project to Hutto while being a thoughtful neighbor on a constrained site. The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to vote on the zoning change later this month. Following that, the Hutto City Council will hold the final vote on May 7th to decide on the data center's development.
