Keller homeowners fight proposed Circle T Data Center in Westlake
Homeowners from Keller are fighting a proposed Circle T Data Center development in Westlake, Texas, citing concerns about its proximity to their homes. A Tarrant County judge has temporarily paused the project's vote by granting a restraining order, though a Westlake town meeting on the matter proceeded. The legal challenge against the development is ongoing.
Residents from Keller, Texas, are vocally opposing a proposed Circle T Data Center development slated for Westlake, just across the town line. Homeowner Josh Rabe expressed his family's concerns at a Westlake Town Council meeting, highlighting the proposed data center's close proximity to Keller residences, particularly those in the Lakes at Marshall Ridge and Marshall Point areas, which are only a couple hundred feet away, in stark contrast to Westlake residents who would be 1200 yards away.
The opposition intensified after Marshall Ridge homeowners and two Westlake residents claimed town leaders failed to provide proper notice during planning and zoning meetings that date back to December 2004. Consequently, they filed a restraining order. By 3 PM on a Monday, a Tarrant County judge sided with the residents, temporarily pausing the vote on the data center plans. Despite this legal development, the Westlake town meeting continued as scheduled.
While some residents stated they do not oppose data centers in general or property owners' rights to develop their land, they strongly object to a development that they believe infringes on neighbors' homes with "reckless and disregard for our investments, our quality of life and our health." The developer has not commented on the legal challenge or the delayed vote. This matter is scheduled to return to a Tarrant County court on August 26th.
