The Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority confirmed that Google is evaluating Wood Haven Technology Park near the Interstate 81/581 junction for a potential data center. Google is operating as Clearview Dynamics during the due diligence and inspection period, which is expected to continue through March 2027. The 94-acre site is jointly owned by Roanoke, Roanoke County and Salem.

Roanoke County Administrator Richard Caywood and Roanoke Mayor Joe Cobb described the proposal as potentially the largest industrial project in the county and the wider Roanoke Valley, citing construction activity, permanent jobs and potential community investment. Google Regional Public Affairs Manager Clay Allsop said the company would continue its due diligence and community engagement. Reviews will include engineering, geotechnical, utility-capacity and environmental assessments, and the site would use Spring Hollow Reservoir for water if the project proceeds.
