Rapid City staff will ask the Planning Commission to delay consideration of a proposed data center ordinance until Dec. 10. The delay would allow officials to incorporate feedback from a public survey and open house into the proposed rules.

Rapid City staff plan to recommend that the Planning Commission continue consideration of a proposed data center ordinance to its Dec. 10 meeting rather than act on it immediately. The proposal addresses whether and where micro-scale and large-scale data centers should be allowed and how restrictive the regulations should be.

The city held an open house and interactive survey on Oct. 14, receiving about 150 in-person responses and 790 additional online responses. Community Development staff will present the survey findings and public comments at the commission meeting, with the results posted alongside the agenda so revisions can be made before the ordinance returns for consideration.
