New I&M president says, again, to expect lower bills
Indiana Michigan Power President and COO Maryam Brown said the utility has proposed lowering residential, commercial and industrial base rates by 5% and freezing other rates for three years. She also criticized Fort Wayne’s proposed data center moratorium, saying it could discourage investment, while discussing transmission upgrades tied to regional growth and data center demand.
Maryam Brown, president and COO of Indiana Michigan Power, told WANE 15 that the utility’s pending rate case would reduce base rates by 5% for residential customers and freeze other rates for three years. She said the average residential customer could save about $10 per month once the proposal takes effect, subject to regulatory approval.
Brown also opposed the Fort Wayne City Council’s proposed data center moratorium, arguing that it could send a negative signal to businesses considering investment in Fort Wayne, Allen County and Indiana. She said data centers are paying all electric infrastructure costs built to serve them, including take-or-pay commitments covering at least 80% of contracted usage. The interview also covered the Lulu-Sorenson Transmission Improvements Project, which is expected to proceed through route evaluation and stakeholder engagement before construction around 2028.
