The Landrum City Council is set to discuss a proposed temporary moratorium on data centers within city limits during an upcoming work session. Council members will evaluate the scope, duration, and study period for potential zoning and land-use regulations. This follows Spartanburg County Council's recent approval of a one-year data center moratorium.

The Landrum City Council is scheduled to hold a work session on Tuesday, July 14, to discuss several key issues, including a proposed temporary moratorium on data centers within the city limits. Council members will consider the parameters of such a moratorium, focusing on its scope, duration, and the necessary study period for developing future zoning and land-use regulations.

This discussion comes after the Spartanburg County Council recently voted to implement a one-year moratorium on data center applications on June 22. That county-wide measure immediately halted new projects while officials work to establish future regulations.

In addition to the data center moratorium, the Landrum City Council's agenda includes reviewing a proposed Memorandum of Understanding with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), updating the Employee Handbook, and considering changes to the city’s Animal Control Ordinance. They will also discuss potential participation in the South Carolina Main Street program. These work sessions are for discussion only, with no final votes taken, but the public is invited to attend. During the subsequent regular meeting, the council will consider amendments to the city’s Noise Ordinance and the annexation of the Frolich Property.
