Palm Beach County said no to Project Tango expansion, but data center space still triples
Palm Beach County zoning staff approved increasing data center space at the Project Tango property from 206,000 to nearly 700,000 square feet, despite county commissioners rejecting a larger expansion proposal in July. The approval was granted without another commission vote because the application was submitted before the county’s data center moratorium took effect, prompting concerns from nearby residents.
Palm Beach County zoning staff approved a PBA Holdings plan to nearly triple the data center space at the Project Tango property in Loxahatchee, from 206,000 square feet to just under 700,000 square feet. The approval came less than three months after county commissioners voted 5-1 to reject a separate proposal that would have expanded the site’s data center footprint to more than 1 million square feet following extensive opposition from nearby residents.
The approved plan includes an 850-foot setback near Arden, noise limits and continuous sound monitoring, a county water-utility commitment of no more than 100,000 gallons per day for the site, and battery-storage fire-safety requirements. Zoning Director Wendy Hernandez said staff could review the application because it was submitted before the county enacted a moratorium on new data center applications. A separate WPB Logistics application seeking about 1.2 million square feet of additional data center space remains under review.
