Lake County Board District 10 candidates talk affordability, Grayslake data center
Candidates for the Lake County Board District 10 are discussing the planned Grayslake T5 data center development as a major issue in their campaigns. The planned Grayslake T5 data center development has become a central issue for candidates vying for the Lake County Board District 10 seat in Illinois. Democrat Nicki Sullivan and Republican Jeffery Issel are campaigning for the position, vacated by outgoing incumbent Jessica Vealitzek, and both have addressed the development in their discussions with constituents.
Nicki Sullivan, with a background in advocacy and seven years on the Diamond Lake School District 76 board, stated that residents are "very concerned" about the data center. She emphasized the need for transparency in decision-making and for any development to "pay its fair share," while also considering long-term impacts on crucial resources like water, electricity, and stormwater.
Jeffery Issel, a precinct committeeman for Fremont Township, also acknowledged the contentious nature of the T5 data center debate. He proposed bringing both sides of the argument "to the table" to ensure all facts are presented, even suggesting a ticketed event with proceeds going to a local homeless shelter to facilitate information sharing. Issel stressed his intention to approach issues with an independent attitude, listening to all perspectives despite his conservative Republican affiliation.
