City leaders in Festus, Missouri, have reached a tentative agreement concerning a proposed $6 billion data center project. The deal involves real estate developer CRG, who has agreed that an unnamed technology tenant will cover all energy costs, preventing these expenses from being passed on to Jefferson County residents. To ensure this, CRG is expected to enter a binding agreement with energy company Ameren Missouri. The Festus mayor indicated that the city anticipates a benefit of $45 million over the next decade, with $5 million specifically allocated for a new firehouse. The plan also includes a voluntary buyout program for residents living in the immediate area of the proposed data center. The community has shown considerable opposition to the project in past meetings, and another public meeting is scheduled where residents can voice their opinions. More than 30 people are expected to speak during the public comment section. If approved, the data center would be located off Highway 67 and CC.
