Major data center projects in various stages of development in and around Shreveport, Louisiana, are prompting significant concerns regarding the capacity and stability of the region's power grid. Logan Burke, executive director for the Alliance for Affordable Energy, highlighted the unprecedented scale and rapid fluctuations in power consumption by "large hyperscaler data centers," warning that such demands could lead to massive strains on the grid, electrical burnouts, and power quality issues, citing a similar threat experienced in Virginia.

Local resident Kanique Prince voiced public apprehension about rising electricity bills, fearing that incoming data center projects would exacerbate already high costs, despite assurances from SWEPCO that it would cover 100 percent of project-associated costs. Prince also criticized a perceived "lack of transparency" from developers and utility providers.

The Alliance for Affordable Energy is advocating for the Louisiana Public Service Commission to mandate greater disclosure from developers regarding their power demands and to ensure that customers are not burdened with the costs of new infrastructure built to serve these projects. Furthermore, Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell is demanding answers from SWEPCO and Southwest Power Pool (SPP) following an unplanned six-hour power outage that affected Bossier and Caddo parishes. Caddo Parish leaders have also expressed that residents lack sufficient information to fully understand the implications of a data center project currently underway near Blanchard.
