Entergy defers Google's West Memphis data center payments, customers to cover construction costs

Entergy Arkansas is deferring more than $2.1 billion in total upfront and minimum demand payments from Google, tied to the technology giant's substantial data center project in West Memphis. This financial structure is part of a 20-year special rate contract established for Google's $4 billion, 1,100-acre facility, which is being developed to power the company's search and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Under this agreement, Entergy's other customers are anticipated to bear the burden of the utility infrastructure's construction costs, rather than Google paying these upfront. The arrangement highlights the significant financial implications for both the utility and its customer base in facilitating major industrial developments such as Google's data center.
