Deep Green's CEO is advocating for a data center in downtown Lansing ahead of a City Council hearing on the sale of two parking lots. The project would utilize waste heat for the city's hot water heating system and provide financial benefits to the city and a utility assistance program. Deep Green CEO Mark Lee is making a final pitch for his company's proposed data center in downtown Lansing, Michigan, ahead of a crucial Lansing City Council public hearing. The council is set to deliberate on the sale of two parking lots to Deep Green, which plans to build a small-scale data center. According to previous reports from 6 News Investigates, the proposal currently lacks sufficient support for approval. The project is designed to integrate with the Lansing Board of Water and Light's (BWL) infrastructure, utilizing the data center's byproduct heat to transition the city's heating system from steam to hot water. BWL CEO Dick Peffley highlighted that without Deep Green, the utility would need to construct a 4,000-square-foot heat station. Deep Green has also committed to a $1 million annual return-on-investment payment to the city of Lansing and an annual $120,000 contribution to BWL's Pennies for Power program, assisting customers with energy bills.
