The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) launched a new webpage detailing electric utility resiliency plans. Governor Abbott issued an order directing the PUCT and ERCOT to require data centers to fully fund the costs of their electric infrastructure. This directive aims to protect Texans from bearing the financial burden of data center expansion.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) recently unveiled a new System Resiliency Plans webpage, designed to inform residents on how electric utilities are enhancing grid reliability and their capacity to withstand extreme weather events. These multi-year plans typically encompass system and technical upgrades along with operational improvements.

In a separate but related development, Governor Greg Abbott issued a directive ordering the PUCT and ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) to implement measures that shield Texans from the financial burdens associated with data center expansion. Under the new order, data centers are now mandated to fully cover the costs of the electric infrastructure required for their operations. Additionally, the commission and ERCOT are tasked with submitting a joint memorandum outlining further actions to reduce costs for ratepayers, and the PUCT is required to decrease fees customers pay to power companies for electricity transmission.
